While digging through some of my music compositions the other day I came across an instrumental piece that I wrote a few years ago. I plugged it into MIDI at the time I wrote it. I just converted it to MP3 format and uploaded it to one of the sites.
Here it is, originally titled “Intro”:
It’s just under 7 minutes long. I wrote the piece in one quick go, straight through. Some music I sit down and take my time composing, really working my way into the details, getting down to the microscopic level while containing the big picture within a specific framework. Sometimes I write music on the spot and I just let it come into existence with whatever instinctual path it takes, regardless of what predefined composing routines I’ve used in the past. It’s sort of like a “notated improvisation” only, in this case, plugged directly into the computer’s music composition & notation software. The MIDI, even converted as MP3, is a bit rough around the edges but it gets the basic idea across. I’d love to hear a live acoustic version of this. The orchestral strings playing throughout. The harp. The piano. The acoustic guitar. All instruments that use strings. You can think of the original title, “Intro,” as more along the lines of Prelude or Prologue. What is to follow? Perhaps one day I’ll expand upon this little ditty, write a fully orchestrated work, and round things out with a recap in the form of an Epilogue.
